Odoo and Talexio, Connected: A Malta First from Centric

If you run your business on Odoo and your payroll on Talexio, you already know the gap between them.

Every pay run starts the same way. Someone pulls employee hours, leave and allowances out of Odoo. Someone copies them into Talexio. Someone double checks the numbers, because a typo in a payroll file is not the kind of mistake you find out about quietly.

It works. It is just slow, repetitive, and completely avoidable.

So we built the bridge.

Why payroll stays in Talexio

The obvious question is why a business would not just run payroll inside its ERP and be done with it.

The answer is compliance. Maltese payroll is not a generic calculation. FSS, NI thresholds, statutory bonuses, leave entitlements that change with the budget every year. Talexio is built and maintained specifically for this, and it keeps pace with the rules as they shift.

There is also a practical reason. Plenty of Maltese businesses have been running payroll in Talexio for years. Their HR team knows it. Their historical records live in it. Their year end submissions come out of it. Asking them to move all of that into a new system to gain a bit of convenience is a bad trade.

Our view has always been that good ERP work is not about replacing every tool a business owns. It is about making the tools they already trust work together properly.

What we built

Centric has developed a custom integration that exports the relevant fields from Odoo and delivers them to Talexio, ready for the payroll run.

Odoo stays your single source of truth for operations. Talexio stays your payroll engine. The data moves between them without anyone opening a spreadsheet and retyping a column.

As far as we are aware, this is the first integration of its kind built in Malta.

How it works

We designed it to fit around how a business already operates, not the other way around.

Two ways to move the data

  • API connection. A direct link between the two systems. Data moves across automatically, with no file to handle and no manual step in the middle. This is the option most businesses will want.
  • Bulk export via Excel. Odoo generates a structured file that is ready to go into Talexio. Useful if your finance team prefers to review the data before it lands in payroll, or if your internal process requires a checkpoint before each run.

Two ways to schedule it

  • On an interval. Set it to run weekly, fortnightly or monthly to match your pay cycle. It happens in the background and nobody needs to remember to trigger it.
  • Manually. Push the data across when you decide you are ready. Helpful for off cycle runs, corrections, or businesses with variable hours that get finalised late.

Most of our clients end up using a combination: scheduled runs for the regular cycle, and manual pushes when something needs to go out mid month.

What actually changes

The double entry disappears. Whoever was rekeying payroll data every month gets that time back. For a company with fifty employees, that is not a small saving.

Fewer errors. Manual transfer is where mistakes creep in. A missed overtime line, a wrong leave balance, a decimal in the wrong place. Removing the human copying step removes most of the risk with it.

Nothing to migrate. If you are already on Talexio, you stay on Talexio. Your history, your reports and your year end process are all untouched. Your team does not need retraining.

Compliance stays where it belongs. Payroll is still calculated and filed by the system built for Maltese requirements. We have not moved that responsibility anywhere. We have just made it easier to feed.

Who this is for

This integration makes sense if you are:

  • Already running Odoo and Talexio side by side and manually bridging the two
  • Implementing Odoo and want to keep your existing payroll setup rather than replace it
  • Growing to a headcount where manual payroll preparation has stopped being a half hour job

It is a particularly good fit for businesses with variable hours, shift work or multiple departments, where the volume of data moving each cycle is what makes the manual process painful.

Every setup is a little different. The fields you need to move, the timing of your pay run and the level of review your finance team wants all shape how the integration is configured.
